- Subject: [IML] QUEST: Magnetism
-
- Heyas,
- Well, this is probably a reeeely basic question, but could someone please
- explain how to use the magnetism tool, or point me in the direction of a
- good tutorial for it? Thanx a bundle

- Very quick demo:
-
- Add a default sphere; pick it. Enter Pick Points, then Hide Points, and
- with the Drag Box selection tool, hide all the points in the top half of
- the Top view. Enter Drag Points mode and ensure your selection tool is
- "Click to pick". Activate magnetism, changing it to Bell mode and its
- radius to 30.
-
- In the Front view, move the mouse to the center point and hold down the
- mouse button. You'll see all the points within a 30-unit radius light
- up; these are the points that will be affected by the magnetism tool.
- Drag the point around, and the other will follow -- but those that are
- farther away from the center point will be less affected by your mouse
- motion.
-
- This is fine if you wish to drag the points in the X/Z plane, but what
- if you want to drag them closer to or farther from you? You'd obviously
- drag the mouse in the Top or Right view, but it's often hard to select
- the desired set of points. With magnetism, you'll often want to select
- in one window, and drag in another. Here's how to do it.
-
- In the Front view, hold the Shift key and click on the center point.
- When you release the mouse, the point you clicked will be left
- highlighted. Release the Shift key. Then move the mouse to the Top or
- Right view, press and hold Ctrl, and hold the mouse button down. You'll
- now be able to drag the points in the Y direction (and X or Z, depending
- on the view), something you were unable to do in the Front view.
